Catalyst of Austin

Ministry Overview

Our vision is to be an urban church proclaiming the gospel of Jesus, making multi-cultural disciples and equipping them for the Kingdom mission in Austin and beyond. Catalyst is an intentionally multi-ethnic and socio-economically diverse church plant in Central East Austin. With a multi-national church planter (Jamaican/English), the leadership of Catalyst hopes to embody a Revelation 7:9 vision of seeing “a crowd from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne.”

Why Austin?

According to Forbes magazine, Austin has been the fastest growing city in the country. It is an emerging global technology and cultural hub. At the same time, Austin is the 3rd most economically segregated city in the country and between 87-90% of Austinites do not attend a local church. 1 Chronicles 12:32 tells us the men from Issachar “understood the times and knew what Israel should do.” With the emerging national demographics, multi-cultural disciple-makers who will proclaim the gospel of being reconciled to God and one another through Christ are needed in high demand in Austin. As we make disciples in urban Austin and equip them for the Kingdom mission in Austin and beyond, we have the potential to have a national and global impact.

Seeing God at work in Austin

One of the ways we have seen God at work is through our story being captured by the largest newspaper in Austin - the Austin American-Statesman. This past summer, after following us for over a year in our pre-launch phase, they published a full feature article on our story in the Sunday paper. The article later got picked up by the Associated Press and became a national article. Our story of risk-taking faith for God’s Kingdom was prayerfully able to encourage and inspire others to be on the front lines of God’s Kingdom mission. Additionally, God has been at work with bringing us co-workers in ministry. Gabe and Holly Tovar along with Jeff and Dana Johnson have helped to carry the burden of ministry and become our family in Austin.

Prayer Requests

Continued prayers for the spiritual and physical health of the Blake family and Catalyst leadership team. Prayers for God to raise up leaders to work the vast harvest in Austin. Prayers for favor with influential people such as the case with Nehemiah and King Artaxerxes. Prayers for wisdom. Prayers to stay on-vision and on-mission.
